Druva Acquires CloudRanger

Today I’m incredibly excited to announce that we are acquiring CloudRanger, a pioneer in Backup & Disaster Recovery solutions for workloads running on AWS. CloudRanger is based out of Letterkenny, Ireland, and led by founder David Gildea. David and his team will join our organization to help integrate CloudRanger’s technology with the Druva Cloud Platform and build future-proof products to manage data born in the cloud.

As we announced sometime ago, Druva is focused on a major new initiative: to protect and manage data born in the Cloud. As Druva has evolved from being a backup for enterprise endpoints and remote offices, to a platform where enterprises across all industries are reimagining how they manage business critical data, it’s important that we not just manage data on-premises, but data created in the cloud as well — ensuring consistent, end-to-end data protection and management for the enterprise.

Druva has been a pioneer, leading digital and cloud transformation for our customers. We are fortunate to be working with progressive, thought-leading customers like Live Nation, Pfizer, NASA, Leidos, and many others who are on their journey to rethink the data center and adopt cloud-based services.

This pressure to modernize is being driven by a number of forces: economies of scale, business agility, and an explosion of data. It’s no wonder that AWS has continued to see growth of over 40%. With new cloud services and data sources emerging within Public Cloud, IT is quite often challenged with how to manage business resiliency and governance across the new data environment. With data getting more decentralized, enterprises need a more holistic and centralized view to successfully manage their global data footprint.

Today Druva already supports data protection and governance for SaaS applications like Microsoft Office 365, Salesforce, Box and Google G Suite, and is used by 4,000+ enterprise customers. CloudRanger complements our existing capabilities by addressing a key hurdle to managing IaaS and PaaS enterprise data that now exists within AWS. David recognized the opportunity early and built a world-class product to offer data center class protection and management on AWS services like EC2, EBS, RDS and Redshift.

CloudRanger has created a team with a deep competency in the economics and technology of cloud, and has built its service natively for Public Cloud, with a completely serverless architecture that enables unprecedented simplicity, elasticity and scale. Another exciting dynamic about CloudRanger is the company’s SaaS business model, which Druva is a firm believer in. This truly helps organizations focus on outcomes vs. the plumbing.

Druva will integrate CloudRanger’s product into Druva’s Cloud Platform, so our enterprise customers can manage the complete end-to-end data footprint from a single pane of glass.

Finally, the entrepreneur in me is very proud and happy for David and the CloudRanger team, who saw the opportunity early in 2014 and placed a big bet on a trend called “AWS.” Life happens to those who take chances. We are super thrilled and excited to on-board the CloudRanger team and open a development center in Letterkenny, Ireland.

PS: Why the name Cloud Ranger ? Credit goes to David’s son who is a big fan of the Power Rangers.
